Meet the Doctors
Joy Schechtman D.O.
Dr Schechtman is the head of SunValley Arthritis Center, Ltd. She is board certified in Rheumatology and a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatologists. She has been in private practice since 1985 and in the Valley area since 1987.

She is an Associate Professor with Midwestern University and former Chief of Staff of Arrowhead Hospital.

Dr. Schechtman Graduated from Oho University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1980. Her Rheumatology Fellowship was at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio from 1983-85.

Dr. Schechtman was voted Top Doctor in Rheumatology for 2012 and 2013 by Phoenix Magazine.
Jack Tuber D.O.
Dr. Tuber fulfilled his medical school training at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following internship in Dayton, Ohio, he completed an internal medicine residency at both Doctors Hospital, Columbus Ohio and Richmond Heights General Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio. He is board certified in internal medicine. Following fellowship training in pulmonary diseases at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (Currently Midwestern College of Osteopathic Medicine-Chicago), he became board certified in pulmonary diseases of the chest.
Currently, he is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and member of the American Osteopathic Association, Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and the Maricopa County Medical Society. He has been a prior Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Lung Association. Dr. Tuber’s current medical interests are in nutrition, nutraceutical supplementation and the ill-health effects of a modern western diet. He has been the director of clinical research at SunValley Arthritis Center, Ltd. since 1998.
Extracurricular activities include active participation in the Sierra Club’s Arizona Chapter Energy Task Force and is a Sierra Club representative on Maricopa County’s Bridging Climate Change and Public Health Strategic Plan Committee, a member of Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Union of Concerned Scientists among many other groups. He enjoys reading, hiking and is an avid music listener.

Dr Al-khalili
Dr Al-khalili is a board certified Rheumatologist and a certified Clinical Densitometrist. He completed his Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr Al-khalili evaluates and treats diverse rheumatologic conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Gout, Ankylosing spondylitis, and other autoimmune joint and connective tissue diseases.

Dr Al-khakili is a certified Clinical Densitometrist who evaluates and manages osteoporosis. Also, Dr Al-khalili is certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and performs injections of joints under ultrasound guidance.
Dr Al-khalili is a graduate of the Jordan University Faculty of Medicine. His Internal Medicine Residency training was at the University of New Mexico. Afterwards, he worked as an Internal Medicine attending Physician while serving as a Volunteer Assistant Professor with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Before he and his family moved to Phoenix, he practiced Rheumatology in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dr. DeLea
Dr. DeLea is a board-certified rheumatologist who​ has a clinical interest in treating a variety of rheumatic diseases including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Lupus, Vasculitis, Osteoarthritis, Myositis, Scleroderma, and Gout.​ ​ She enjoys working collaboratively with her patients to create a personalized treatment plan to achieve improvement in quality of life.​ She is enthusiastic about healthy living and how it can positively impact both physical and mental health.
She received her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, NM in 2006. During her medical school training she completed a Fogarty International Fellowship sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and Johns Hopkins University in Lima, Peru.​ She returned to the University of New Mexico to complete her internship and residency in Internal Medicine in 2009 followed by subspecialty fellowship training in Rheumatology between 2009-2011.​
Dr. DeLea​ joins us from Portland, Oregon where she has practiced rheumatology since 2011.​ ​ She​ grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and​ enjoys spending time with her family, playing sports like tennis and golf, hiking, dancing, traveling internationally and speaks conversational Spanish.​ The addition of Dr. DeLea to the Sun Valley Arthritis Center expands its capacity to help meet the needs of our patients and their families in the Valley area.​ She loves Arizona and is thrilled to be a part of the team of rheumatologists at Sun Valley Arthritis, Ltd.
